Sensei Dylan and Sensei Gemma trained in two Zoom classes with Sensei Andy Sherry and Sensei Frank Brennan

We resumed with Zoom classes as we entered another lockdown, and started outdoor private lessons for students on a 1:1 basis.

Some of our club members attended a course on Zoom with Sensei John James Bruce, Sensei Holly Bruce and Sensei Greg Hegarty.

We continued with our club Zoom classes and trained through the snow in our private outdoor classes.

Sensei Dylan and Sensei Gemma had their first KUGB England Squad training of the year on Zoom.

Members of the club trained with Sensei Andy Sherry, Sensei Frank Brennan and Sensei Billy Higgins on Zoom.

We continued with our Zoom classes and outdoor private lessons.

Sensei Dylan and Sensei Gemma trained on Zoom with Sensei Garry Harford, and KUGB England Squad training with Sensei Frank Brennan.

We returned to outdoor group training at the end of the month and presented our End of Year Awards for 2021!

We continued with outdoor training at the start of the month and returned to indoor training in mid-April.

Kanushanth Balachandran and James Bowart passed their KUGB Young Leaders Theory Test.

Sensei Dylan and Sensei Gemma trained on the KUGB Easter Course on Zoom and a special Zoom class with Sensei Jimmy Brennan and Sensei Frank Brennan.

Sensei Dylan and Sensei Gemma trained in their last ever squad training on Zoom with Sensei Frank Brennan.

We held our first grading of the year with Sensei Jimmy Brennan, 8th Dan.

Sensei Gemma passed her Sandan (3rd Dan) grading with Sensei Frank Brennan, Sensei Billy Higgins and Sensei Garry Harford.

We hosted our 13th Annual Karate on the Beach, the first large karate event to take place since Covid restrictions came into place, and the largest year of the event so far.

As Covid restrictions continued to ease, we were finally able to kiai again for the first time since March 2020!

Sensei Dylan and Sensei Gemma travelled to Liverpool for their first in-person England Squad training since 2020.

We surprised our club with a new Body Opponent Bag (BOB) that we bought using money raised at Karate on the Beach.

We hosted our second grading of the year with Sensei Frank Brennan, 8th Dan.

Kanushanth Balachandran and James Bowart were awarded their KUGB Bronze Young Leaders Award.

Sensei Brennan chose Jay Crosby as the winner of our Summer Holiday Photograph Competition and Rhys Tweddle as the runner up.

OCTOBER

Sensei Gemma placed 3rd in Kumite at the KUGB Shotokan Cup.

Students from the club competed in the KUGB Northern Region Championships, the first time the club has entered a competition. Minujan Balachandran placed 4th in Children's Kata.
